Civil War historians Ed Bearss and Gregg Clemmer co-lead tours tracing the three days of the Civil War’s pivotal battle, offering a detailed look at the people and places that defined Gettysburg’s history. This tour focuses on the second day of the battle only.


Day Two: July 2, 1863

View the area of fierce fighting between Confederate General James Longstreet and Gen. Dan Sickles' 3rd Corps. A look at the crucial and bloody struggle for Little Round Top and the 20th Maine's pivotal role in the fight with the 15th Alabama follows. Bearss discusses Maj. Gen. Cadmus Wilcox's Alabamians and Brig. Gen. Ambrose Wright's Georgians at Cemetery Ridge, with final stops at Culp's Hill and Cemetery Hill, where evening darkness frustrated Gen. Robert E. Lee's final bid for victory.


This tour runs from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., by bus from the Holiday Inn Capitol 550 C Street, S.W., with a pickup stop at the I-270 Exit 26 Urbana carpool parking lot at about 8:55 a.m.

Lunch at a local restaurant is included. Dress appropriately for battlefield walks.
