Day Three: July 3, 1863

This tour focuses on Culp's Hill, where the Union dislodged the Confederates, and Seminary Ridge, where Lee watched the attack by Maj. Gen. George Pickett and Brig. Gen. James Pettigrew. On foot, trace Pickett's line of attack on Cemetery Ridge, a battle in which more than two-thirds of the 12,500 Confederate soldiers were killed, wounded, or captured. After lunch at the Cashtown Inn, visit the National Cemetery, where Lincoln made his immortal address. The tour concludes at Big Round Top, site of Gen. Elon John Farnsworth’s tragic charge.

This tour runs from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., by bus from the Holiday Inn Capitol 550 C Street, S.W., with a pickup stop at the I-270 Exit 26 Urbana carpool parking lot at about 8:55 a.m.

Lunch at a local restaurant is included. Dress appropriately for battlefield walks.
