Mosaic by Bonnie Fitzgerald

Create a stylized representational mosaic landscape filled with texture and dimension as you explore a range of compositional techniques including working with perspective, foreground and background effects, and light and shadow. The selection of unique, varied materials includes smalti, stained glass, milleflori, shells, pebbles, and found objects. Students explore various textures and color combinations, and discover tips to transition between materials.

Inspirational images are provided, but students may bring their own image to interpret with the instructor’s approval 2 weeks in advance. A $65 supply fee, payable to the instructor at the first class, includes substrate, a generous selection of tesserae, and adhesives (a colored thin-set is the primary adhesive). Students are welcome to bring supplemental mosaic materials.

Previous mosaic or stained glass is experience helpful, but not required. Returning students may work independently during this session on pieces of their choice.
