Darley Newman in Tokyo

Mixing the ultra-modern with Edo-period traditions, Japan’s capital city of Tokyo is one of the most exciting and diverse destinations on the planet. Television host, writer, and producer Darley Newman shares insider’s tips on this fascinating metropolis, which she collected while putting together an upcoming episode for her PBS series “Travels With Darley.”

She used locals to guide her through the top neighborhoods, markets, temples, and surprising areas of natural beauty, and is ready to share plenty of practical strategies for visitors along with insights into Japanese daily life and culture. In preview clips from the episode, take a behind-the-scenes tour of a Tokyo saké brewery, find the freshest sushi at the world’s largest fish market, hike a sacred mountain sprinkled with Shinto shrines, learn how to put on and wear a kimono, and more. Get a look at some of the production crew’s outtakes from the filming, too!

Originally a web series, "Travels With Darley" takes viewers on U.S. and international adventures with a focus on the history, food, music, and art that reflects diverse cultures and traditions. She has received five Emmy nominations for the globe-trotting PBS series “Equitrekking."

A saké tasting follows the program.
