Sustainability, availability, sentiment, and stash reduction are some of the reasons people select particular materials for a quilt project. In addition, look at issues of textile production and bring fresh eyes to quiltmaking choices as a way to live more lightly on the Earth.
Review principles of color, value choices, compatibility of fabrics, and basic strategies for dealing with different materials. Students create improv tote bags, in a pattern designed by the instructor, suitable for collecting the fabrics for their next quilt.
Please bring a few fabrics to add to the shared stash pile. Several sewing machines are available by reservation. You may bring your own machine if you are familiar with it or sew by hand.
