Materials for this program

By Theresa Otteson

Before photography was available, botanical illustration was the only way of visually recording the world’s plant life. Illustrations of plant life were used by physicians, pharmacists, botanical scientists, and gardeners for identification, analysis, and classification. Through the skill of artists, the beauty of botany was shared with the world. While photography has replaced painting as a means of documentation, these floral paintings are an inspiration for artists and those who enjoy their beauty.

In this class, the instructor walks you through the process of capturing the essence of florals through the wet-in-wet method. Go over materials, color mixing and paint application, as well as various other topics through demonstration. The instructor provides support and suggestions to students to create a beautiful floral painting.

Some painting experience is recommended for this class.
