Materials for this program

(Toronto Ink Company)

Learn the science and magic of how bright magenta pokeweed, dark black walnut, vibrant orange cosmos, and even urban detritus can become ingredients for your palette in the form of beautiful inks. First, take a special guide sent by workshop leader Jason Logan and spend time in nature or on the sidewalk right outside your door to ethically forage for ink-making materials to experiment with during class.

Then get hands-on in the studio with simple household ingredients to mix, test, and transform what you gathered into rich, vibrant inks, creating place-based art materials that celebrate the stories of where they were found. Using a mother recipe for concocting ink, process, bottle, and test your foraged materials while learning the particulars of plant-, mineral-, and metals-based inks. As a group, problem-solve foraged materials and sample inks and modification methods on paper. You come away with a bottle of ink of your own creation.

Enjoy this special workshop with coffee and snacks. Logan’s new children’s book, How To Be a Color Wizard, is available for sale and signing. Logan is an artist and the founder of the Toronto Ink Company.
