Yoga can be the self-care component in your healthcare prescription: a lifestyle medicine that promotes overall well-being. In an interactive day, Linda Lang, a certified yoga therapist, shares how yoga can both prevent illness and injury and help manage your relationship with chronic conditions. Benefits can include increased self-awareness, greater vitality and mental clarity, risk reduction, pain management, and enhanced recoveries from myriad maladies.

10–10:50 a.m.   Yoga: An Introduction

Lang weaves time-honored practices with scientific research to examine how yoga can calm your nervous system, improve heart health, benefit cancer survivors, and strengthen memory while reversing symptoms of cognitive decline to reduce the risk of dementia.

11–11:50 a.m.  Asana Practice

Lang covers categories of Asana movements (seated, standing, on the floor or sofa), options on how and where to practice, and guidelines for sequencing, warm-ups, and moving with the breath.

12–1 p.m.  Break

1–1:50 p.m. Pranayama Breath Work and Meditation

Cultivate a relationship with your breath as a key to quieting the body and mind and learning to experience meditation as a natural state of being. Practice easy techniques to improve your quality of life and learn to be more responsive rather than reactive in situations.

2–3 p.m. Yoga Therapy: Finding Your Personal Yoga Rx

Each person is unique, requiring a highly specific set of practices to support them physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. Lang offers perspectives on how to embrace yoga as a clear path to lifelong health, inspired living, and better being.
