Beginning students as well as experienced painters explore new materials and techniques in watercolor painting in this course. Painting still-lifes and landscapes from direct observation or photographs, they explore basic watercolor techniques and learn new approaches to painting through classroom demonstration, discussion, and experimentation.

About the Instructor

David Daniels earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant in 1970, and his interest in art led him to earn a Master of Art Degree in 1982. Daniels’ work has been selected numerous times for solo exhibitions in Michigan and the Washington, D.C. metro area, and his paintings are in many private and public collections around the world, including the National Institutes of Health. The Edward Hopper Scrapbook, an online compilation by Smithsonian American Art Museum staff, contains many of Hopper’s watercolors, including Eastern Point Light, 1923, thought to be Hopper’s first watercolor painting.
