Create a delightful portrait of your favorite animal or pet. Students learn to grasp the essence of an animal, then discover how to reflect those characteristics on canvas, primarily using acrylic paints. The goal is to produce artwork that best captures your animal in a whimsical or realistic depiction.

The many styles of animal portraiture are covered, and collage and other techniques and materials are demonstrated and discussed as possible additions to your artwork.

Bring a reference photo of your pet or other animal subject and any personal materials to incorporate into the portrait. All other supplies are provided.

Student Supply List: One or two 11x14 canvases (board or stretched), acrylic paints of your choice, brushes, pencil, photo of your favorite animal or pet.

Instructor: Lori VanKirk Schue
