Terrariums, once popular Victorian home furnishings, were used to display rare and exotic plants. Variations on the cases developed to allow safe seagoing transport of tropical plants to Europe in the early-19th century, terrariums maintained higher humidity and more uniform temperatures for plants than were found in most houses of the period.

Today, these trendy glass containers are at the forefront of modern design and provide a range of options for low-maintenance indoor gardens. In this workshop, learn how to create a miniature indoor garden for your home with rocks, plants, and moss. Find out how bring plants into all facets of your life, and how to care for them.

Instructor Sarah von Pollaro is the founder of Urban Petals Floral Design in Washington, D.C. The class is hands-on, so dress in clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty.

Bring your own container; everything else you need to create your terrarium is provided.
