Learn the nuances of gouache, an opaque matte watercolor medium. Gouache is widely used by artists who want the ease of a water-soluble medium with the added bonus of opacity. Students learn what gouache can offer that is different from its transparent cousin, traditional watercolors. Either alone or married with other mediums, gouache plays along for exquisite results that even the beginner student finds exciting.
The instructor discusses the production and history of the medium, gives several demos, and guides students with in-class experiments to prepare them for a final project.
