Please Note: This class has a newly adjusted schedule (originally Jan. 9 to Feb. 27, 2019 and later Jan. 23 to March 13, 2019).

The January 23 session of this class will be moving to Hill Center, 921 Pennsylvania Ave SE, Washington, DC 20003. Additional information below:

In this combination course, students work from still life, architectural interiors, and landscape to translate the world of three dimensions to two through the arts of drawing and painting.

The class first focuses on drawing in order to understand value structure and the use of contrast to describe form. Next, move into the medium of oil paint to learn color mixing and how to employ a painterly approach to construct form, light, and space. Ideal for beginning students, the goal of the class is to become articulate and comfortable with the fundamentals of oil painting and to approach it with confidence.
