Please Note: This tour is designed for participants that live in the DC Metro Region. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for participation on all tours; additionally, current CDC and Smithsonian COVID-19 guidelines (at the time of the tour) will be followed, including but not limited to masks on the bus and indoors.

The Washington region has many locations that are ideal for taking in the beauty of spring wildflowers. These walks in the C&O Canal National Historical Park’s Carderock area, just north of the Beltway, take you to some of the area’s most dramatic settings. Follow the towpath and side trails to reach outstanding displays of seasonal wildflowers in habitats ranging from rich woodlands and deep ravines to high cliffs with wonderful views of the Potomac. Highlights of the early-April walks may include plant varieties such as spring beauty, harbinger-of-spring, and early saxifrage, and walkers may also spot Jack-in-the-pulpit, Solomon’s seal, wild geranium, and Mayapple.

The tour is led by naturalist Liam McGranaghan.
