Each holiday season, Smithsonian Gardens staff provide the inspired flower arrangements, trees, and decorations that enliven Smithsonian museums and buildings during this festive time of year. They are also the artists responsible for turning seedpods, evergreens, and colorful stems into unique creations that fill the urns, adorn the gates, and hang from the lampposts of museum gardens.

Led by Smithsonian Gardens horticulturist Christine Price-Abelow, make a truly spectacular holiday wreath inspired by the gardens including fresh mixed evergreens, winterberry, and holly, along with a wide assortment of natural and fanciful man-made holiday accents and decorative ribbon. Students also learn fundamentals of design, how to use leftover materials, and the secret to making a perfect bow.

The workshop begins at the Smithsonian Castle to view the indoor holiday decorations before taking a wintry walk through its bedecked grounds. Then, retreat to the warmth of the Ripley Center to create your own one-of-a-kind seasonal accent to take home. Light holiday refreshments and all materials are provided.
