Installation photography of State Fairs: Growing American Craft, Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, 2025; Photos by Albert Ting

This tour is free but requires registration. Space is extremely limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

A branch of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Renwick Gallery is dedicated to exhibiting American contemporary craft, including ceramics, jewelry, fiber works, and furniture. This National Historic Landmark was designed by architect James Renwick Jr. in 1858 and was the first building in the United States built specifically to be an art museum. The works exhibited celebrate makers taking both innovative and traditional approaches to their work. Join other Smithsonian Associates donors for an exclusive tour of the museum’s special exhibition, State Fairs: Growing American Craft, the first exhibition dedicated to artists’ contributions to the great U.S. tradition of state fairs with more than 240 artworks on view, dating from the mid-nineteenth century to the present. Artists and 4-H clubs from 43 states and tribal nations are represented, with all 50 states represented in a photo gallery.
