Everyone who lives here knows the challenges of navigating around the Washington region—or flying out of it. Discover some of the infrastructure solutions designed to combat them by spending a day with transportation professionals on a tour led by Bill Keene, a lecturer in history, urban studies, and architecture.
Begin with a visit to Reagan National Airport for an inside look at Project Journey, a $1 billion-dollar expansion program. Learn what DCA is doing to keep up with a growing, densely populated region through adding a new terminal, reducing congestion in airport roads, and improving parking facilities and amenities in the terminal.
After a three-course lunch at Bonefish Grill in Pentagon Row, join Arlington County transportation officials as they discuss how planning efforts have allowed the county to accommodate new residents and jobs while decreasing traffic on its main roads. The tour highlights transit-oriented development and investments, as well as bike infrastructure, in the Crystal City, Pentagon City, and Shirlington areas. Then head back to D.C. for a private tour of Capital Bikeshare’s newest maintenance facility with Eric Gilliand, the organization’s general manager.
Price includes lunch. The tour involves standing and walking for long periods; please wear closed-toe shoes.
