Ancient Art Collections of Rome

Many of Rome’s lesser-known museums contain some of the world’s most important Greco-Roman art. From the Equestrian Monument of Marcus Aurelius in the Capitoline Museums to Emperor Augustus’ giant Ara Pacis (“Altar of Peace”) in the Richard Meier–designed museum that takes its name from the work, to the most significant collection of Etruscan art in the world at the Villa Giulia, to the detached frescoes from the villa of Empress Livia at the Palazzo Massimo, Rocky Ruggiero, an expert in Renaissance art explores the ancient art collections of Rome’s most important museums of antiquities.
