A view of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem

Dominating the skyline of Jerusalem, the Dome of the Rock is both a sacred Islamic shrine and an iconic symbol of the Holy City. Majestic and luxurious, it has withstood wars and earthquakes, medieval and modern times. What messages did the artists who built it enshrine in this noble edifice, and what does this World Heritage Site, created over 1,300 years ago, have to say to us today?

Join Barbara Drake Boehm, the Paul and Jill Ruddock curator emerita of the Met Cloisters, to explore this remarkable place, including its history, mosaics, and inscriptions, and its enduring meaning.
