Across the Western Hemisphere, thousands of Indigenous communities are sustaining traditional practices and contributing to a more equitable future. The 2024 Smithsonian Folklife Festival highlights these living traditions under the theme Indigenous Voices of the Americas: Celebrating the National Museum of the American Indian. Campers explore the festival and the museum; join a circle of celebration with stories, songs, and dance; sample ancestral foods like the “Three Sisters” (beans, corn, and squash); and learn stories that underlie Indigenous sports and games. They also learn how Indigenous youth are reclaiming their languages through spoken word and Hip-Hop and try their hand at it. Family and friends join campers on Friday for a festival-inspired showcase.
