Whether in books, newspapers, artwork, or posters, for centuries all over the world the art of printmaking has played a vital role in creating the information we see and interact with. Through visits to the Smithsonian’s American Art, Postal, and Asian Art museums campers explore how information, news, history, art, and entertainment have been affected by the ability to print and make multiples of anything. They learn printmaking techniques including intaglio, screen printing, and letterpress and discover the science of color behind printmaking, pigments, and color mixing and how it applies to the tools we use today. Using their new printmaking skills campers create their own newspaper, poster, and other designed materials.
