Building a Smithsonian City

August 12 - 16, 2019, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Code: 3A0284

Put on your hard hat and roll out your blueprints—we’re about to get building! What shape is structurally strongest? Which team can build the tallest tower? How would you redesign the grassy area of the National Mall? Viewing the Within These Walls exhibition at the American History Museum and constructing with giant foam pieces at the National Building Museum inspire campers as they compete in challenges throughout the week and build their own model city from recycled materials. Young campers become urban planners, architects, and builders as they work together to create the sprawling Smithsonian City. On Friday, friends and family get a guided tour of the brand-new town.
