In the final push against the Axis forces during World War II, the Allies executed the Italian Campaign, bitterly battling through the treacherous mountains to defeat German and Italian soldiers. Campers learn about the deadly yet important battles at cities such as Rome, Anzio, Salerno, and Monte Cassino, painting miniature Axis and Allied soldiers and constructing their own dioramas and terrain board. Documentaries and visits to the National Archives and the American History Museum expand campers’ understanding of the costly campaign that lasted until the end of the war.
