Vernon Can Read!
Hardcover - 320 pages (October 16, 2001)

Vernon E. Jordan Jr., longtime Civil Rights leader, and charismatic adviser and close friend to presidents and business leaders, recalls the people and events in his life that have most influenced him, especially the struggles and dangers black Americans endured during the Civil Rights era.

Crediting his confidence and determination to the structure and direction given him by his parents, Jordan talks about attending a predominately white college, graduating from Howard University Law School, and leading registration drives in the South.

Vernon Jordan is a senior managing director of the investment firm Lazard Freres & Co.

This program was recorded November 19, 2001, at The Smithsonian Institution
