Author Walter Mosley is a native of Los Angeles, the setting for his Easy Rawlins mystery series. His first novel, Devil in a Blue Dress, received immediate acclaim in 1990 and was the winner of the Shamus Award for Best First P.I. Novel from The Private Eye Writers of America.

On this audio program, Mr. Mosley discusses the importance of black male heroes in literature and illustrates his analysis by reading one of his short stories featuring his new character, Socrates Fortlow.
