Kenneth Branagh, director of three highly acclaimed film adaptations of Shakespeare, describes decision-making behind-the-scenes in lively interview with NPR's Susan Stamberg. Kenneth Branagh has been entranced by Shakespeare since he was 11. He received his formal training to be an actor at London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He went on to an extraordinary career in the theater, performing with (among others) the Royal Shakespeare Company and his own Renaissance Theatre Company. His 1987 adaptation of Henry V and his 1993 production of Much Ado About Nothing earned him the reputation of making Shakespeare accessible and relevant to modern audiences. In 1996 he brought Hamlet to film with brilliant success. Nationally renowned broadcast journalist Susan Stamberg is special correspondent for National Public Radio.
