Hand stitching is a great way to reduce stress, and the portability of handwork projects makes them ideal take-alongs to fit into your day. Review the basics of hand-stitched quiltmaking and expand your skills while working on a small quilt of your choice. The four-session class is designed for students who have completed the introductory Today’s Quilts by Hand class, but other advanced beginners are welcome.

Topics include making templates for your own pieced design, appliqué techniques, rotary cutter techniques, strip piecing, fabric preparation for new and repurposed fabrics, assembling blocks into a top, quilting ideas, and finishing techniques, as well as other areas of interest to students. Work may be done by hand or machine.

Each session is shaped by students’ questions and features practice in several basic techniques. Time is included to work on your own quilt. Sharing a project in progress is allowed, and the instructor provides examples of her own work for inspiration. (Her mantra is “Embrace the unexpected result” so be prepared to try something new.)

This class will be recorded. Please see our FAQ for recording terms and conditions.
