Join art historian and culinary expert Elaine Trigiani in her 15th-century Tuscan farmhouse for a virtual exploration of Venice through its artistic and culinary heritage. It was there that Giambattista Tiepolo (1696–1770), master of the Venetian school of painting, developed his style. Varying from decorative to deeply emotive, his works are characterized by his facility with line and masterful use of color and light. He was able to meet the tastes of the time, responding to commissions for exuberant Rococo decoration as well as deeply moving religious works. Working with his two sons, Giandomenico and Lorenzo, the Tiepolo family workshop became a dominant force in 18th-century European painting as their recognizable style spread throughout the Continent thanks to royal commissions.
Then, taking inspiration from the renowned Venetian cocktail hour scene, Trigiani demonstrates how to make a selection of the savory snacks known as cicchetti, Venetian tapas that are served with cocktails at the city's bacari and malvasie.
