Do you sing Elvis hits in the shower, croon along with the Beatles when you're stuck in traffic, or have a knockout kitchen version of your favorite Motown classic? It's time to find a bigger stage! If you love the music of the ’60s and ’70s, and want to sing some of the greatest hits from that era, you're ready to join the Boomers Chorus, a program geared for people ages 55 and above who love to sing—and there’s no experience required.

Ernest Johnson leads the ensemble in arrangements of the hits we know and love. Songs may include favorites by Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Beach Boys, Aretha Franklin, Fleetwood Mac, Bee Gees, James Taylor, and others, selected by the conductor. (The final song list is chosen to fit the specific vocal and musical abilities of the group.)

The experience is designed to entertain, challenge, and educate singers of all skill levels. Chorus members receive general instruction in vocal techniques including exercises in healthy breath management for singing and improving tone and range. Basic music-reading instruction is included as songs are rehearsed.

Rehearsals culminate in a free public performance.

Johnson is a choral conductor and music educator who has worked with singers and musicians of all ages for more than 40 years. He is the director of adult choirs at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Alexandria, an adjunct professor at George Mason University, and active as a guest conductor, teacher, and clinician throughout the area.

This program is made possible through generous funding from Aroha Philanthropies.

9 sessions including final performance; no class on October 8.
