Someone has to be the go-to explainer of mind-bending equations in physics. Sean Carroll is that person, once again offering deep insights into the workings of the universe—and making it comprehensible—with the first in a three-book series, The Biggest Ideas in the Universe: Space, Time, and Motion.

Carroll pulls back the veil of mystery cloaking the most valuable building blocks of modern science as he explains the fundamental ideas informing the modern physics of reality. He even shows us the surprising extent to which all of our most cutting-edge ideas about black holes are still built on calculus—and believes that anyone with a basic understanding of high school algebra has the capacity to understand these concepts. It’s a whole new way to understand our complex universe.

Carroll is the Homewood professor of natural philosophy at Johns Hopkins University and teaches in the Fractal Faculty program at the Santa Fe Institute.

Note: A copy of The Biggest Ideas in the Universe (Dutton) is included in the Member + Book and Nonmember + Book ticket options. (see Book Distribution Information for added details).
