Are you worried about your memory, or someone else’s? Understand more about how memory works and how you might optimize yours from Barry Gordon, a nationally recognized expert on memory and memory disorders.

Gordon explains that each of us has two different memory systems, and use many different kinds of memory codes. He demystifies how their complex interactions lead to the often-puzzling ways our memory seems to behave, explains how to identify our own individual patterns of strengths and weaknesses, and how we might better understand what these patterns are.

He discusses what memory and mental skills are likely to get worse with aging, which are incorrectly blamed on aging, and those that might actually improve as we get older. In addition, he identifies the memory and mental skills that are most useful to keep honed, and suggests techniques and lifestyle changes that can potentially help improve your ability to pay attention, think, and remember at any age.

Gordon is a professor of neurology and cognitive sciences at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, where he founded the Memory Clinic.
