Catch some super sounds by rising stars as the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz presents the 26th Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, this year focusing on the jazz saxophone. The competition was launched at the Smithsonian in 1987, and offers cash and scholarship awards to three outstanding musicians 30 years of age or younger.

The 2013 judges include noted jazz sax players Jane Ira Bloom, Jimmy Heath, Branford Marsalis, Wayne Shorter, and Bobby Watson.

Winners will be selected at the September 16 finals at the Kennedy Center, a ticketed event that includes an all-star concert featuring winners from past competitions.
