Why does a piece of music sometimes flow past your brain, suffuse your soul, and remain in your memory? Answer: It’s great. If you require more explanation than that, Rob Kapilow, well-known commentator, conductor, and composer, has a knack for unraveling and exploring the elements that combine to render a musical composition a masterpiece.

In this year's season of his popular What Makes It Great? series, Kapilow brings his insights to enduring works by an intriguing range of composers. Each session follows a three-part format. Kapilow first offers an in-depth discussion of the featured work. Next, the piece is performed in its entirety. A question-and-answer session with the audience and performers rounds out the program.

Deepen your connection to some of your favorite musical works, and discover why the Kansas City Star says “Not since Leonard Bernstein has classical music had a combination salesman-teacher as irresistible as Kapilow.”
