Behind the Scenes with NBA Commissioner David Stern
Thursday, January 10, 2013 - 7:30 p.m.
No professional sports league has come as far in the past 30 years as the National Basketball Association. In the early 1980s, the NBA had to air its final playoffs as delayed telecasts. Now the league has become a worldwide attraction, with players such as LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Dwight Howard attaining household-name status. Throughout this explosive period, Commissioner David Stern, has remained at the helm.
In a lively and insightful panel discussion moderated by Phil Hochberg, veteran Washington stadium announcer, Stern discusses the current state of professional basketball; the increase in foreign stars in the NBA; and some of the controversies such as the control of the New Orleans franchise and age limits on NBA players in future Olympics. They’ll be joined by Michael Lee, the Washington Post’s Wizard’s beat writer, Mike Wise, the Post’s sports columnist, and CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, a basketball superfan.
