Would James Bond be as suave without his signature Martini, shaken not stirred? Would Casablanca be the same without Humphrey Bogart’s iconic toast (not to mention his Champagne cocktail)? And could Nick and Nora Charles have cracked so many cases without cracking ice for the cocktail shaker?
Since the beginning of the movies, cocktails often played an important role in films and have come to define some iconic characters themselves. Tonight, Philip Greene, cofounder of the Museum of the American Cocktail, will be joined by some of D.C.’s best craft bartenders to highlight the memorable cocktails of the silver screen and explore their place in both Hollywood and American history.
Mingle with the crowd while sipping James Bond’s Martini, a Champagne cocktail from Casablanca, and six other star-worthy libations while watching clips from the films that made them famous, and surrounded by Hollywood memorabilia from the Smithsonian’s collection.
All drinks are included with admission and are available the entire evening. The event is devoted to cocktails; therefore, beer and wine will not be available. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served.
