PLEASE NOTE: Due to road closures and increased security on and around the National Mall for the Presidential Inauguration the start date for this program has been postponed from January 19 to January 26, 2017.

Maintain your shooting momentum over the winter by exploring an array of photo-worthy indoor sites. Locations may include the Library of Congress, U.S. Botanic Garden, National Building Museum, the American Art Museum’s Kogod Courtyard, and other sites downtown and on the National Mall. Two sites may be visited during one session. In addition to these local sites accessible by public transportation, the course includes an all-day Saturday field trip to Pennsylvania’s Longwood Gardens.

At the first session, for which students should bring six jpg images on a thumb drive, the class discusses the shooting schedule, location techniques, and optional tripod use. Subsequent sessions combine a series of weekly location shoots with a classroom review and critique session; a class blog is available to post images. By class consensus, an additional shooting session may be planned in lieu of a final classroom review.

Students should have basic photography skills and be familiar with the operation of their camera. Any manually adjustable digital or film-based format may be used, as well as a camera-appropriate tripod and cable release or remote. Students process film, if used, outside of class time.

The price of admission to Longwood Gardens is included in the course tuition. Students provide their own transportation to the site; carpooling possibilities are discussed at the first class.
