Washington historian and guide Jeanne Fogle leads a tour of Rock Creek Cemetery.
This is the final resting place of such locally and nationally renowned figures as Alice Roosevelt Longworth; Alexander “Boss” Shepherd, second and last governor of the District; author Upton Sinclair; Evalyn Walsh McLean; and notable names in Washington commerce including banker Elisha F. Riggs, department store founder Julius Garfinkel, and brewer Christian Heurich. The cemetery is known for Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Stanford White's memorial marking the graves of Marian Hooper “Clover" Adams and her husband Henry Adams, featuring a statue often referred to as “Grief,” as well as other elaborate monuments.
