This tour is also available on:

Indulge your appetite for things Italian, feasting on great paintings, sculpture, architecture, gardens, food, and song. Kathleen Bashian, a certified master guide, leads a tour that celebrates the heritage and cultural influence of Italy as reflected throughout Washington.

Highlights include a behind-the-scenes visit to the American History Museum’s Dibner Library to explore early books on Italian architecture and science; a specially arranged tour of Italian highlights of the National Gallery of Art’s permanent collection; and a visit to the Embassy of Italy.

Take a close look at the gilded equestrian statues Arts of Peace and Arts of War, cast in Italy, which grace the entrances to Arlington Memorial Bridge and Rock Creek Parkway. A visit to Meridian Hill Park puts you in the fountain-filled center of the city’s most elegant Italianate garden, which features a statue of Dante. Enjoy a family-style lunch at Carmine’s Restaurant, complete with a special opera performance.

The day ends with a private tour of the Embassy of Italy, spotlighting its classic architecture, furnishings of modern Italian design, classical paintings, and ancient artifacts.

No fringe stop.
