Although Washingtonians know what real-life political drama looks like, we still can’t get enough of the fictional (and spicier) version on ABC’s hit series Scandal. Along with millions of other gladiators around the world, we look forward to Thursday nights (#TGIT), to escape to a world where Fitz is in the White House and DC fixer Olivia Pope is untangling the latest crisis.
But along with the popcorn and red wine, Washingtonians bring something else to their viewing experience: a keen eye for what Scandal gets right about our town and a special appreciation for seeing ourselves reflected on the small screen.
Now some famous fictional Washingtonians—or at least the people who play then—are headed to the capital city, along with Shonda Rhimes, the show’s creator and executive producer. They include Scandal stars Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, Bellamy Young, Katie Lowes, Guillermo Diaz, and Jeff Perry.
They join Martha Raddatz, ABC News’ chief global affairs correspondent and co-anchor of This Week with George Stephanopoulos, in a conversation about the latest Scandal-ous happenings, how closely storylines mirror the real Washington, where the creators draw inspiration for their characters, and plenty of other topics loyal fans want to hear about. And as a bonus, everyone becomes a true DC insider (at least for the night): The event includes a screening of the show’s latest episode.
