Each year more than 7 million people visit the Vatican Museums to admire the superb collection of art that has been assembled by numerous popes over the centuries. The Sistine Chapel with its frescoes is the most famous of the museums, but the collection also includes an extensive array of antiquities; paintings and sculptures by celebrated Renaissance artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Caravaggio; and breathtaking architecture and decorative halls. Renaissance art expert Rocky Ruggiero explores the museums’ treasures.
