Mosaic by Bonnie Fitzgerald
Get an introduction to creating mosaics in the mesh method, using unglazed porcelain ceramic materials in works suitable for exterior or interior display. Assembled by indirect fabrication, mesh-backed mosaics are often used for architectural installations such as backsplashes and shower enhancements.
Tiles used in the class mimic the look of traditional mosaic materials with natural hues and an earthy feel, and are especially attractive in bold graphic motifs in classical lay patterns. The instructor provides sample patterns, and students are welcome to bring their own designs.
Participants are guided in cutting shapes and sizes for their design using a simple tile nipper; learn installation methods; and in the final class, can choose to adhere their finished piece on a panel for mounting. All experience levels are welcome.
A supply fee of $65 (payable to the instructor) includes substrate, adhesive, mesh, patterns, and a generous selection of unglazed porcelain tiles for a project of approximately one square foot.
