Tucked away in the Valley of the Kings, the tomb—almost untouched by time or tomb robbers—provides a priceless window into the past. Egyptologist Jacquelyn Williamson examines the life and times of Tutankhamun, as revealed by the artifacts preserved in his tomb. She explores the social and religious imperatives that influenced the breath-taking treasures he was buried with, the most famous being his golden death mask and burial coffin. Such objects also reflect the scandalous heritage of the famous boy-king who was erased from Egypt’s own history, only to find immortality in the modern world. Williamson is an associate professor of art and archaeology of the ancient Mediterranean world at George Mason University.
