STREAMING PROGRAM INFORMATION

  • This program is part of our Smithsonian Associates Streaming series.
  • Platform: Zoom
  • The program is free, but online registration is required.
  • Once registered, patrons should receive two emails: one is an automatic general email confirmation and the second will feature Zoom meeting access information for the given program as a follow-up.

There’s something centering, even calming, by immersing yourself in a sewing project made by hand. With a hand needle and materials you have at home, create a therapeutic textile panel featuring a spiral that inspires reflection. If you wish, personalize your project by using, for example, familiar materials such as vintage table napkins. Learn how to couch a line, embroider words, and embellish your creation, along with ideas for finishing and displaying your piece.

This class is about the process of making rather than perfection of product. The spiral can be used as a tool to promote emotional balance and focus by suggesting both sides of a situation. Choice of materials may help to evoke good memories.

This streamed workshop is limited to no more than 15 participants. Open to all skill levels. No experience is required.
