Hallmark Channel holiday movies are a big business, garnering an estimated $350 million in ad revenue annually. The channel's formula for the movies has been criticized for its predictable, wholesome content, and lack of racial, religious, and LGBTQ representation. So why do millions of people keep watching? Educator and lecturer Stef Woods explores the fairy-tale formula, contract actors, and marketing strategies that have made Hallmark Channel holiday movies hugely successful. She also analyzes the controversies and competition that the channel faces.

Following the lecture, in-person attendees have the opportunity to make their own holiday cards with card-making instructor Karen Cadogan while enjoying seasonal treats from 3 to 4 p.m.
