George Washington in Alexandria
Saturday, April 20, 2019 - 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Interior of Christ Church, Alexandria, Virginia
This tour is also available on:
No other town is as associated with George Washington as Alexandria, and Washington considered it his hometown. He surveyed Alexandria’s streets as a teenager in 1749, and his public memorial service was held there 50 years later after his death.
Join author and historian Garrett Peck as explores sites associated with the first president. Follow him on a tour that includes Old Town’ alleyways, rustic taverns, churches, 18th-century houses, ice wells, and historic waterfront. If the 2-hour walk works up a thirst, raise a glass to Washington—and Alexandria—at an optional happy hour (with cash bar) following the tour.
This tour begins at the main entrance of Christ Church (118 N. Washington Street) and ends at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House (323 S. Fairfax Street). A free trolley is available from King Street Metro station to the waterfront.
Parking is available in Old Town, with the Market Square underground garage on Fairfax at Cameron Street recommended. The route covers about 1.5 miles along alleyways and sidewalks; dress for outdoor walking.
