Rocky outcropping in Shenandoah National Park

Who knew that beneath our feet is evidence of magma chambers, giant sharks, Himalayan-sized mountains, and the breakup of several supercontinents? Geologist and Washington native Callan Bentley leads a fascinating exploration of the Mid-Atlantic region that explores an extraordinary history spanning more than a billion years of geologic time. Learn about the geological history of landmarks such as the Blue Ridge Province, Shenandoah National Park, the Piedmont Province, and more.

Bentley is an associate professor of geology at Piedmont Virginia Community College in Charlottesville and writes the geology blog Mountain Beltway.
