The United States Constitution was written in the 18th century, in a three-mile-per-hour world, by white privileged men in wigs and buckled shoes. It has been amended only 27 times in 235 years, the first 10 right off the bat in the Bill of Rights.

The question is whether the Constitution is still the right blueprint for the most powerful country in the world at a time of breathtaking social and technological change, or whether it is time to amend or replace it with something more relevant to the opportunities and challenges of our times.

Join humanities scholar Clay Jenkinson as he surveys the changing place of the Constitution in U.S. history and considers the proposals for constitutional change that are getting increased attention as America moves into greater and greater paralysis.
