PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater is a supreme example of his organic architecture, stemming from his belief that every building should appear to grow naturally from its environment. Built for the Kaufmann family of Pittsburgh as a mountain retreat in the late 1930s, it is regarded as a pivotal design in the history of modern architecture. Cantilevered over a waterfall, Fallingwater is the only remaining major Wright work with its setting, original furnishings, and artwork intact.

Bill Keene, a lecturer in history, urban studies, and architecture, leads a virtual journey that explores the history and design of this iconic structure, as well as the man behind its creation. Come away with a better understanding of this amazing structure and gear up to plan your own independent exploration of Fallingwater.
