In 1987, David M. Rubenstein co-founded the Carlyle Group, one of the world’s largest and most successful investment firms. Since the company’s founding, with $5 million in capital and a single office in Washington, D.C., Carlyle has grown into a firm managing more than $210 billion from 31 offices around the world.
Carlyle’s success has enabled Rubenstein to increasingly focus his attention on philanthropy. He was an original signer of the Giving Pledge, and has fostered the development of “patriotic philanthropy” with gifts to the National Park Service, National Archives, Kennedy Center, Library of Congress, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, and the Smithsonian, where he serves as chairman of the Board of Regents.
Join Rubenstein and award-winning journalist Cokie Roberts for an evening that covers personal stories, philanthropy, economics, and the importance of preserving and interpreting American history.
