The Washington Monument

Arts journalist Richard Selden, a Baltimore resident since 2008, leads the first of several virtual visits to the city’s most historic and distinctive neighborhoods. Centered on a Washington Monument older, shorter, and more classical in style than the one on the National Mall, Baltimore’s Mount Vernon is home to the Walters Art Museum, George Peabody Library, Maryland Historical Society, Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, and roughly a dozen 19th-century churches and clubs.
